Ahi Tuna With Honey, Miso & Ginger Sauce

Ahi Tuna With Honey, Miso & Ginger Sauce

Serves 4 to 6

1 lb. Ahi steaks (¾ inch thick; 2 steaks)
1 “thinly sliced” scallion (green onion); save a few slices for garnish
1 “minced” garlic clove
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons “grated” fresh ginger
2 tablespoons dark sesame oil
2 tablespoons miso paste
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
Fresh ground pepper to taste

Place the Ahi steaks in a dish for marinating. Combine all the ingredients in a small (non-metallic) bowl. Pour the marinade over the Ahi and flip to marinate both sides. Cover the fish tightly with wrap and allow it to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 to 1½ hours.

Over medium heat, sear the steaks in a non-stick skillet. Each side should be seared for 1 to 1½ minutes. This is a matter of taste, for a longer sear will leave the Ahi less rare in the middle.

Now, remove the Ahi from the skillet and cut into ¼ inch thick slices. There are many options for serving: sprinkled with scallions, alongside rice, over a bed of beautiful mixed greens, sliced cabbage or fennel.

This dish is served slightly chilled or cold.
