This is a subject matter that is very important to me because the benefits are huge! Making your own salad dressings and vinaigrettes can change the way you feel about “getting those all important vegetables into your diet.” Homemade versions are more cost effective, flavorful, and healthier (no added preservatives and, believe it or not, easy to make). On my website, I have now added a new section to my recipes devoted to salad dressings, vinaigrettes, and marinades that will knock your socks off! Of course these are delicious, but the beauty of making your own is to tailor it to your personal taste, which means getting creative and playing around with an assortment of ingredients such as, herbs, spices, shallots, and of course garlic. Also, there are an array of special oils and vinegars available in your local grocery or specialty foods store today to utilize. I love experimenting with different balsamics as well as oils with walnut, peanut, and hazelnut. Another few ingredients that are fun include Champagne/sherry vinegars, mustards, and even citrus juice; the list is endless and always delicious. Most important, have fun, be creative, and enjoy!!!!
