Don’t we all just love those mouth watering sides that are a perfect compliment to a beautiful turkey, ham or holiday roast? Not to mention, being a focal point of the meal for any vegetarian family member or friend. Keeping a tradition when it comes to our food is always something to look forward to, but what about giving it a twist, spicing it up a bit? For instance, Wasabi mashed potatoes are out of this world and simple to prepare. Having a selection for those “low carb” guests is always a good idea, for instance my Cauliflower mash (tastes like mashed potatoes) is so delicious, as well as being low in fat and calories.
When I think of this time of year, some good old Southern favorites always sound good to me. Collard greens, sweet potato or corn casserole anyone? Just the mere thought of these yummy sides makes my mouth water! Lastly, one can never go wrong revving up that tired old stuffing recipe with a Sausage, Cranberry, and Apple version, found in my recipe section.
Personally, I love to start out my holiday meal with a beautiful wintery soup like Butternut Squash, Pumpkin or even a beautiful Chestnut Bisque. If you feel that a bowl is too filling with all that soon follows, try using small cups or even clear tall shot glasses, fill each one about ½ an inch from the top and garnish with a dollop of crème fraiche. Oooh la,la!
Have a happy, safe, and gastronomically fantastic holiday season everybody!
